Atlanta, Georgia

August 2, 2011

I went to Atlanta with my really good friend Kim. She works for Aflac and won this trip. Her husband couldn’t go… So I went instead.

We left early Thursday morning and got back Sunday afternoon. We had so much fun. Met some wonderful people who dragged us out  when it was way past my bed time. Danced so much I have blisters!!!! Ouch. Drank a little too much wine. That’s when I realize I’m not so young anymore.

I mentioned in my last post.. all from my iphone, that we went to Gladys Knight’s Chicken and Waffles which was delicious. we had fried green tomatoes.. Yum

This was on Diners, Drives and Drive-ins

Fried Green Tomatoes

The hotel was beautiful. The Marriot Marquis. Over 40 floors and spectacular to look at all those floors.

Over 40 floors. We were on the 30th floor.

We didn’t get to the aquarium .. too long a wait , but my friend took this beautiful picture..

just Beautiful

And last but not least I couldn’t resist this delicious cheesecake.

Hard to resist....

I am very behind on with my online Art Classes and I wanted to take others… Oh well.

Art fest has just come out with it’s schedule…so many amazing classes to choose from. I also have to see if my room mates from last year want to share again.

Also, my air conditioner is on the blink..and it’s so hot!!!!!

I’m going off to melt now!

Artfest Video part 1

April 23, 2011

I had so much fun at artfest. Thanks to Teesha, Tracy and their wonderful family.

Here’s is part 1 of my weekend of being annoying with my video camera…. I splt it up because it would be too long and I’m not sure if the blog can handle it.. So we’ll see.

If you find my voice annoying or do not enjoy the choice of music, turn the volume down baby!

And so , without further ado…. Artfest   part 1:

I think my eyesight is getting worse as I couldn’t always tell what was in focus as I filmed. Also In my finished video all of the names at the end showed and now it’s posted they don’t all seem to show. Hmm…. I’m new at this and I’m assuming theses are all annoying technical glitches. Darn it. (wish me luck for part 2)

Back from Artfest

April 11, 2011

Oh I had the best time ever at Artfest. I had some fabulous roommates, Alysse and Heather. I met Dianne on the plane,  ( yes we were one of the 6 ladies that missed the shuttle) which was delayed.  I also met some people who’s blogs I have been following . So exciting. Kind of like meeting a mini celebrity. I met amazing people, and I loved my classes and my teachers, but more about that in a later post.

I am a little tired however, well, maybe more exhausted, and I didn’t even really have any late nights. But there was lots of ladies in pajamas hanging out going cool art things at night. I was blown away by people’s art journals.

I feel like  I have a tribe, and Artfest family now. Everyone was trading cool stuff they had made. You’ll see that in the video.

I videoed all 5 days, and I plan to make a video and post it here. So anyone who was there  can be reminded of the fun and anyone who didn’t go may be tempted to go next year. I’m going for sure.

In the meantime here are a few pictures I took with my phone

I got very excited every time i saw deer, and they were quite tame.

Daisies... I love them. I used to make daisy chains when I was a kid. But where I live they say they're weeds and there are none.

The deer were everywhere. I loved seeing them. This was a little family of 3.

There were also Daisy’s everywhere. They were closed in the morning and opened up as the day got warmer and sunnier. We had wonderful weather.

Here is a painting I did from Sunny Carvalho’s class: painting pretty girls. I didn’t finish it yet. But Sunny was really good at keeping us moving, and I will finish it. I had so much fun and used paints that were a little tricky.

Done with genesis oils.

I have to find the time to edit the video. I have  loads of footage,  but to be honest my eyesight is not what it used to be and it may be tons of blurry stuff.  I have a pair of purple leopard reading glasses that I need for close work now (Pah!) i tried to go back and forth with them but as I kept trying to focus it  I couldn’t really tell if it was or not. I’m getting old.

Lastly, one of my favourite thing about Seattle and I was fascinated with them were  the tiny little drive through coffee shacks. I think this is how Starbucks started. I could see them all over on the drive up to Port Townsend. One looked like it was in someone’s garden, like a lemonade stand.

A tiny little coffee shack.

Artfest Frenzy

mostly little piggies

mostly little piggies, waiting for paint and wings

So little time , so much to do…. oh my.

Seriously I am in the throes of making art trades, and I am switching from one to the other. Also as always happens no ideas at all and then once I start the ideas all come flowing and I keep on wanting to make something new. Well I’ll have a very eclectic group to trade I guess. If I ever finish anything. I also have some dog tags made.

some finished dog tags

wings for the flying pigs....

I may need to make more dog tags.

panic panic. I also have to worry about enough food for the family while I’m gone, arranging for Harry to have a sleep over on friday  because it’s David’s brother’s 40th birthday. Sorry I can’t be there. But I booked Artfest so long ago. My bruv-in-law said he understands though.

on a side note, I have to talk about as amazing teacher my son Jack has.  Jack does not really like school, never has and I hope that will eventually change.

But he has this  teacher, who is quite old school and  he loves and respects him. This teacher Mr Mahfouda, told Jack that if he got 100 on a test he would drink it. What’s that you say? What the heck does that mean? Well Jack did get a 100!!!!! Amazing.

Mr Mahfouda sent him to the cafeteria to get milk. He produced a blender and they proceeded to blend the test.  Then they drank it. Really! What a cool teacher. My younger son Harry said he saw a picture of it on Facebook  and everyone was holding up their phones. I’m assuming they were videotaping it and the man is now a legend amongst the 10th graders and Great Neck South High. I really do have to write a wonderful letter about him to the principal.

Here are some almost finished piggies….

And a few little canvas. Seriously I can’t commit to just one thing ever.

One year ago……Today

March 7, 2011

Wow, time flies.

When I wrote my very first post , I thought, “Who would want to read what I write, see what I paint. listen to what I have to say.”

Instead I must say it’s been a journey. A lovely journey. Through the world of blogs.  I’ve encountered incredibly talented, creative, supportive, wise and wonderful people. And I love it. I feel I’ve got a sense of my creative side again.

I’ve learnt about so many new things, I’ve taken classes I would never have known about. I’ve signed up to go to Artfest. I’m so excited. A year ago I had never have heard of Artfest. I’ve been making trades to take there, here’s a peek…  Flying Pigs seem to be my things right now and of course mermaids as always. But flying pigs make me feel anything is possible.

Artfest Trades

I had every intention of having a ‘One Year Giveaway.’  But I didn’t have my act together . So hopefully next week, while I’m swept up with the creative muse, I’ll have something finished.

Here are some pictures I’ve been meaning to post for a while. ( I used my hipstamatic camera app, which I love ) I took them when my friend Tracy came to visit  from the UK.  We had so much fun. We saw Mama Mia, We walked around the city the whole weekend. ( She made me and there was still so much snow in the city.) My husband and son’s were skiing.

Before I moved to the states I used to watch the steam shooting up into the streets as the cars drove by, in shows like Cagney and Lacey. I was always fascinated by this.

ending with a lovely glass of wine...

Snow and an iPhone miracle

January 15, 2011

My kids had a snow day on Wednesday, much excitement. Sledding was the big activity. So much fun. I had the day off work too. Yay!

Snowy Swings

Jasper doesn’t love the snow too much. But neither would I if my belly touched it, I think. Blue likes the snow Much more. She loves to run in it.

I’ve been busy on my ATC cards for Artfest, I had to make 28. I’ve finished them. When I scan them in I’ll post some of them. I have a hard time committing so they’re all different. I know, I made SO much work for myself.

I also have about 38  4 by 4  Fatbook pages to do.  Of course I haven’t been able to come up with just one design for that either.  So I decided a lot of my Post it doodles that I do at work ( Sorry Boss)  when I’m calling insurance companies will be turned into Fatbook pages. I have so many  because I save them all, then ink them when I get home and colour them. I really have started to enjoyed them. They are like mini-artworks.  I’ll post them soon too. I did however come up with a brilliant idea the other day whilst making my 10th cup of tea that day. Each teabag comes in its own wrapped packet. So I decided to make little envelopes and put them on all the backs of the fatbook pages ( that’s my embellishment, because I’m rubbish at that. ) and slip a wrapped teabag in each one. yay! I think it will tie all the different pages together.

pretty envelopes 3 by 3. The inside of each flap is different

Inside flaps

So I feel good that I’m on track. The deadlines are feb 11th and 15th, I think  I should check just to be sure.

Yesterday  somehow, because I’m stupid,  I let my beloved  iPhone sit in an inch of water…. I put it in the inside door handle , where snow must have fallen in and melted.  When I realized ( yes there was cursing) I kept shaking it on my leg and saw  really wet patches on my jeans… Great.

Then I remembered I had just read something about saving your phone if it got wet by putting it in a ziplock bag with those little silica packets. The ones you get in bags etc . Well I knew I had none a home, because guess what? I throw them away. As most of you do. WELL DON’T from now on.

So i took a detour to TJ max on the way home, after turning my phone off. AT TJmax I rifled the bag section and found a few silica packs and well I pinched them. I was going to buy a bag (Honest) but the only one I liked was $50.00 and almost the same as the black one I was carrying. Which by the way had come from TJmax. So I didn’t feel that horrible. I went home with my  pilfered silica packets; all 3 of them, feeling like a criminal, kinda.

Put my phone in a ziplock with said silica for several hours and … Voila. It’s really just fine. I can’t believe it.

Whoo Hoo I just might go back and buy that bag after all.

Here are some cute pics and I’m off to scan my ATC cards.

Sleeping Beauty

2 Sleeping Boys.

Wow I was gone for SO long.

December 19, 2010

I have been AWOL for such a long time. It’s ridiculous. I don’t know why or what I was even doing. Well, lets see.

  • I gained about 12 lbs, stupid thyroid.
  • I finally bought a wedding ring, I lost the last one, I didn’t  tell my husband and it took him a year to notice. I should have told him I just never found the right time. Anyway I found a beautiful simple band with tiny diamonds on it  so it’s all good now.
  • I have been doing art. My collection of post it doodles has grown immensely. I’m thinking of turning them into my Artfest ATC cards. ( I need 30)  I haven’t found a design for the fat book pages yet. I need 52. Yikes. I can’t commit to a single design and can’t think how to incorporate the art fest theme, ( I know waahh waahh)
  • Soccer’s over, Hockey is still on. Jack’s team made it to States. YAY… Go Edge !!

Harry’s playing Basketball. He loves it.

  • We put up out Christmas tree… and the  Disney mono rail that goes around it.

Here Harry has lined up his favourite decorations, So cute.

  • I read  ALL 7 books of the Outlander Series. Phew! Now I can get back to my life.
  • I’m on a diet called the HCG diet. It worked for me last time and seems to be this time, I’m down 5 lbs, so here’s hoping! I go to mexico on the 22nd. and I still need to lose some weight.
  • I shipped off all my present’s to England…. hope they make it by Christmas.
  • I have no idea why it’s taken me so long to get back to the blogging world. I’ve missed reading all of my favourite blogs too. I have lots to catch up on. I used to make posts on my blackberry. Now I have the iphone, It’s not as easy to type, and my spell check corrects everything I write to ridiculous things.
  • I’ll post some Artwork next blog. It will not be so long …. honestly.

Jasper just chilling'. So cute.
